Part Four:
Jane Austen, Schooled

Part Four: Jane Austen, Schooled

In 1915, The Mentor learning course--with its slogan "Learn One Thing Every Day"--featured Jane Austen in its Famous Women Writers of England number. That number contained (as every issue did) separately printed plates for study and display. Representing Austen was an illustration by Hugh Thomson, with Mr. Darcy and Sir William Lucas. See the front and back covers and both sides of the Thomson Austen plate here.

Is  It  right  for  your  book  club?

Yes, definitely! The paperback edition now includes a brief reader's guide with discussion questions. I'd love to hear from you if you're considering choosing it.

This book works best in clubs familiar with Austen's fiction OR its film adaptations. (You could read or watch Pride and Prejudice and then choose this book.)
